Privacy Policy

What we collect, what we do with it, and how to make us stop.

Last updated: August 30, 2026

The short version

We collect an email address when you give us one, a record proving you gave it to us, and ordinary web server logs. On pages you reach from one of our ads we also set advertising and measurement cookies. We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to anybody. You can unsubscribe in one click at any time, or ask us to delete what we hold, by writing to questions@diyhomewarrior.com.

Who is responsible for your data

What we collect

Information you give us

  • Your email address, when you submit it through a form on this site.
  • A first name, if a form asks for one and you provide it.
  • Answers you select in any quiz or questionnaire on the site — for example the type of project you are planning. These are used to decide what to send you.
  • Anything you choose to write to us in an email.

The consent record

When you submit an email address we store, alongside it, the date and time of the submission, the IP address it came from, the URL of the page you submitted from, and the version of the consent wording displayed on that page. This exists so we can always demonstrate that an address was given to us voluntarily. It is kept for as long as we hold the address, and for a reasonable period afterward as proof of the original consent.

Collected automatically

  • Server and network logs — IP address, browser user agent, the page requested, referring URL, and timestamp. Standard for any website; used for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing faults.
  • Email engagement — whether a message we sent you was opened and which links in it were clicked. Used to gauge what is worth writing and to stop sending to people who have plainly lost interest.

Cookies and advertising technologies

This matters, so we will be specific about where these do and do not run.

  • This page, the homepage, and every other policy and information page on this site set no advertising cookies and carry no advertising or analytics pixels.
  • Article and offer pages reached from one of our advertisements do carry them. Those pages may include the Meta (Facebook) advertising pixel and a click measurement service, which set cookies and identifiers used to tell whether an ad we paid for produced a visit or a sale, and to build advertising audiences. You can control these through your browser's cookie settings, your device's ad tracking settings, and the ad preference controls offered by the advertising platform itself.

What we never collect

We do not take payments, so we never collect or store card numbers or bank details. Any purchase you make happens on the seller's own website under their policies, not ours. We do not ask for government identification numbers, and we do not knowingly collect information about health, finances, or any other sensitive category.

How we use what we collect

  • To send you the email newsletter you asked for, and to decide which of our articles and recommendations are relevant to you.
  • To prove, if ever asked, that you consented to receive that email.
  • To honor unsubscribe requests, by keeping a suppression record that is checked before every send.
  • To measure whether the advertising we buy actually works.
  • To operate and secure the website, and to comply with the law.

We do not sell your personal information

We do not sell, rent, trade or lease your email address or any other personal information to any third party, for money or for anything else. We do not add you to anyone else's list, and we do not run "co-registration" arrangements where signing up here signs you up elsewhere.

Who we share it with

Only the vendors we need to run the site and deliver the mail. Each acts on our instructions and may use the data only to provide their service to us.

Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES)
Delivers our email. Receives the recipient address and message content.
Sendy
List and campaign software running on a server we control. Stores subscriber records and engagement data.
Hosting and CDN providers
Serve this website and protect it from abuse. Process server logs and IP addresses.
Advertising and click-measurement platforms
On ad-reached pages only. Receive event data about visits and conversions in order to report on the ads we buy.

We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect our rights or someone's safety. If the site were ever sold or merged, subscriber records could transfer to the buyer, who would be bound by this policy or give you notice before changing it.

Your choices

  • Unsubscribe. One click, from the footer of any email or from your mail app's unsubscribe control. Honored immediately and permanently; the address is never re-added.
  • Access. Ask us what we hold about you and we will tell you.
  • Correction and deletion. Ask us to fix or delete it and we will, except that we keep a minimal suppression record of an unsubscribed address so that we do not accidentally mail you again.
  • Cookies. Block or clear them in your browser, and use your device's ad-tracking controls.

Write to questions@diyhomewarrior.com for any of these. We do not charge for it, we do not require you to create an account, and we will not treat you differently for asking.

Residents of California and of other states with comparable privacy laws have specific rights to know, delete, correct, and to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it, and the routes above satisfy the rest. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our basis for emailing you is your consent, which you may withdraw at any time by unsubscribing.

How long we keep it

Subscriber records are kept while you are subscribed and for a reasonable period after, unless you ask us to delete them sooner. Suppression records are kept indefinitely, because their entire purpose is to make sure you are never mailed again. Server logs are kept for a short operational period and then discarded.

Security

Data is held on access-controlled servers, transmitted over encrypted connections, and reachable by the smallest number of people needed to run the site. No system is perfect, and we will not pretend otherwise — but we do not hold payment data, which removes the category of information most worth stealing.

Children

This site is for adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, write to questions@diyhomewarrior.com and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change it we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes to how we use your email address will be announced in the newsletter itself, not only here.
